OCU Bursary/Scholarship Application

Osoyoos Credit Union has a long standing history of helping aspiring youth of our local communities to further their education by providing Bursary and Scholarships.

To apply please see the eligibility and evaluation requirements below.

Eligibility Requirements
  1. Applicant, parent(s), or legal guardian must be an active member of a Osoyoos Credit Union.
  2. The applicant must be a full-time Grade 12 student during the 2019-2020 academic school year.
  3. The applicant must be planning to attend a recognized University or College for the 2020-2021 school year.
Evaluation Components
  1. Bursary or Scholarships will be awarded to individuals who encompass a well-rounded character. We are looking for involvement in the community, taking initiative in leadership roles and your overall performance as a student.
  2. Consideration will be given to the following criteria:
    • Community involvement
    • Extra-curricular activities
    • Career goals
    • Leadership roles
    • Work accomplishments while attending high school (if applicable)
Application Process
  1. Applications are available here or can be picked up at the Osoyoos Credit Union. Completed applications can be mail, email or dropped off at the branch. Contact info is at the bottom of the application form.
  2. Once we receive your application, you will receive an email notification that we have received it.
  3. Only one application per person will be accepted.
  4. All completed applications must include the following documentation in order to be eligible:
    • Proof of acceptance to a recognized university or college.
    • A transcript of marks from the educational institution the applicant is currently attending.

Learning Grant Program

About the Program

In support of our credit union community, Valeyo is a proud sponsor of the Learning Grant, a porgram which provides up to 12 grants in the amount of $1,000 each to eligible students for full-time stufy at a qualifyinf Canadian college or university in 2019.

Grants are allocated on a provincial basis as follows: BC (3), Sask (2), AB (2), Man (3), ON (2).

Eligibility Requirements

Any student who is a member of a participating credit union is eligible to apply for a Learning Grant. Students must be entering or within a 12-month to 4 year full-time undergraduate or diploma program at a qualifying Canadian institution in Fall 2019.

Submission Deadline

The program will open February 18, 2019 and will close April 19, 2019. Applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 pm ET.

Submission Requirements

1. An official transcript of mid-year high school results or transcript of first year post-secondary results.

2. An essay of 500 words or less OR a video of two minutes or less describing their academic achievement leadership and community involvement.

3. One letter of reference from school principal, teacher, or professor/instructor.

Selection Process

A Selection Committee of credit union employees will review all applications and determine successful candidates. Learning Grants will be awarded based on the applicant’s academic achievements, leadership and community involvement.

All candidates will be informed of their status following selection. Winners will be asked to provide final high school transcripts and confirmation of enrollment in first or second year of a post-secondary program.

Application materials will not be returned to the applicants. Recipients of the Learning Grants must agree to have their name and photograph published.

Learning Grant Program is open to any credit union member in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

Applicants must be enrolling/enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or diploma program at a qualified Canadian institution in Fall 2019.

Applicants must submit all the requested documents by the given timelines in order to be considered for a Learning Grant.

Evaluation Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated based on three criteria: academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. An abridged copy of the evaluation criteria will be available on the application website. This site will be active on or around February 18.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Grants Renewable?

No, however, students who re not successful in their first attempt may resubmit an application the following year, if they meet the criteria.

What if a Student Sends Me Their Application?

How Are Recipients Informed?

All recipients will be informed of their status via email by the Valeyo program administrator once the Selection Committee has made its decision. Your Valeyo Account Executive and the credit union representative will be copied on communications to the winners.

How Can I Promote This Program in My Branch?

Valeyo has created a series of materials for your use:

  • A program poster (available in digital and print).
  • Digital ad, for posting on our credit unions website.
  • A program brochure (available in digital and print).

Credit unions may use or print materials at their convenience. A limited number of printer posters and brochures will be available for in-branch use. Please speak with your Account Executive to request copies.
